Trying to maintain a long-distance relationship with someone at home or attempting to date someone you meet while on mission are both distractions. There is no question that God loves all of His children, and that obviously includes non-members. He was my first boyfirend and is an amazing husband. I would have been deeply insulted if anyone talked about me the way people are talking about this girl He needs to tell her there is a no chance he will convert, that he is not comfortable with his children being raised Mormon if he isn'tthat she cannot ever expect a temple marriage with him. We attempted to date back when I was in undergrad and he was in med school, and it went nowhere -- mostly because I was young, immature, self-centered and your typical spazzy college kid at that point. I feel like now more than ever, I am expected to just not have an opinion about anything or even a say in how we spend our time together. You'll have to get use to the running late, the tire man, weeks without communication, dinner alone, and unanswered texts and phone calls.
If you have a literal belief that you need to have a temple marriage to go to the celestial kingdom, you will always keep a secret desire to convert your spouse. It was more about my own spirituality and our relationship in our marriage. I can't emphasize this strongly enough.
