Guest artists Illumine Playback Theatre led a special advent church service on December 20, Playback Theatre is a form of improvisational theatre in which members of the audience share stories from their lives, then the troupe retells it on the spot using movement, improvisation, and music. Illumine Playback Theatre uniquely weaves together elements of liturgy and prayer into the Playback method. Illumine's intention is to create spaces where living conversations can take place, where those present feel welcome to share honestly about the triumphs and pains of life, and where the language of our conversations is spoken through embodied empathy. North Shore Church
This service is a variation on a service of light — an opposite of a tenebrae service. The following candles should be placed on a table in the chancel area in preparation for the service. I use a variety of candle lengths and place them on various kinds of fabrics at varying heights for interest. Each candle symbolizes a character in the narrative. Candles will be lighted by an acolyte during the service as specified by the program notes included in this copy of the service.
