The teenage boy who brutally murdered mother-of-two Lindsay Birbeck before hiding her body in a bin and burying it in a cemetery has been named as Rocky Marciano Price. Price pleaded guilty to assisting in the disposal of her body but claimed he played no role in her death. Jurors took less than three hours to unanimously find the year-old guilty at Perston Crown Court yesterday. Appearing by video link, he showed no emotion when the foreman read out the verdicts. Ms Birbeck, a teaching assistant, was discovered by a dog walker 12 days after she was reported missing by her family. She was last seen on August 12, when she left her home in Accrington for a late afternoon walk to a nearby wooded area known as the Coppice. Two hours after the murder, the youth, who was 16 at the time, was seen on CCTV calmly emerging bare chested onto a street with wet knees and his tracksuit unzipped. After finding a quiet and secluded area near the railway line, he then spent over an hour burying Mrs Birbeck before leaving a yellow-handled saw, green gloves and the wheelie bin at the scene. Over the next several days the teenager was captured on CCTV returning four times to visit her grave. Footage was released to the media on August 27 showing the teenager on Burnley Road pulling the wheelie bin.
A year-old boy has been jailed for life for the murder of a mother-of-two whose body he buried in a shallow grave at a Lancashire cemetery. Rocky Marciano Price attacked teaching assistant Lindsay Birbeck as she took an afternoon walk in woods near her home in Accrington last summer. The year-old's remains were found wrapped in two plastic bags in Accrington Cemetery on 24 August last year - 12 days after she went missing. Price was named for the first time on Thursday after reporting restrictions covering his anonymity were lifted by a judge. The teenager from Accrington - who was 16 at the time he killed - had been on the prowl in the woods for lone females and is thought to have murdered Mrs Birbeck shortly after she entered the area, known as the Coppice. She died from neck injuries inflicted by either stamping or kicking or kneeling on the front of the neck, a Home Office pathologist told jurors at Preston Crown Court.
